Patna: A Block Development Officer (BDO) in Bihar’s Vaishali district was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe, in a major operation carried out by the state vigilance department on Monday.

The official, identified as Neelam Kumari, who serves as BDO of Lalganj block, was arrested along with her driver by the vigilance team. Both were taken into custody during a trap laid by the department, officials said.

Following the arrests, Kumari was brought to Patna for questioning. According to sources, the vigilance team is investigating past transactions and seeking to identify other instances where the BDO may have accepted money in exchange for official work.

The arrest has triggered shockwaves across Vaishali’s administrative circles. The vigilance team is also probing the role of Kumari’s driver, who allegedly assisted in facilitating the collection of bribes.

The investigation is ongoing.
