Patna: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced its largest recruitment drive to date with the release of the BPSC 70th Combined Exam advertisement. A total of 1964 posts are available, marking the highest number of vacancies in the commission’s history. The official notification is expected to be available on the BPSC website by tomorrow. The reservation-related matter is currently pending in the Supreme Court, and the prelims results will be announced following the court’s decision.

This year’s recruitment process introduces a new negative marking system. For every three incorrect answers, one mark will be deducted from the total. Previously, one mark was deducted for every four incorrect answers. The commission has now adopted the style used by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The recruitment is expected to attract a high volume of candidates, with an estimated 8 to 10 lakh applications likely to be submitted. Previous recruitment drives for 400 to 800 posts saw more than 4 lakh applications. Given the doubling of vacancies, many candidates, including those unsuccessful in the UPSC exams, are expected to participate in the BPSC 70th Combined Exam.

The vacancies span various posts in Level-9 and Level-7 positions. Some prominent Level-9 posts include Sub-Divisional Officer/Senior Deputy Collector (200 posts), Deputy Superintendent of Police (136 posts), and State Tax Commissioner (168 posts). Level-7 posts include Rural Development Officer (393 posts), Revenue Officer (287 posts), and Supply Inspector (233 posts).

The exam process will consist of three stages: a prelims exam, a main written exam, and an interview. The prelims will feature 150 objective-type questions, with two hours allotted for completion. Candidates passing the prelims will be eligible to appear for the main written exam, which includes subjects like General Hindi and General Studies. Candidates will also select an optional subject. The final stage is an interview worth 120 marks, which, along with the 900 marks of the main exam, will determine the merit list.
