Brutal Beheading of Street Vendor Sparks Panic in Bihar’s Saharsa District

Saharsa: In a shocking and gruesome crime that has rattled the Saharsa district of Bihar, a 45-year-old street vendor was found murdered with his head missing, prompting a wide-scale police investigation.

The victim, Nirmal Sah, a local “bhunja” (puffed rice) seller, was returning home on Saturday night when he was ambushed and killed on a deserted stretch of road near Golma West Ward 12, under the jurisdiction of the Patarghat police station. His cart was found overturned and his decapitated body lay nearby, sending shockwaves through the local community. Disturbingly, his severed head was not found at the scene.

The murder occurred in an isolated area flanked by dense maize fields, believed to have provided cover for the assailants to both carry out the attack and evade detection. According to initial reports, Sah had been returning from Forsaha village, where he had gone to sell snacks, when he was targeted.

Authorities say that the motive for the murder remains unclear. The Sah family has confirmed the identity of the victim, but they remain in shock and unable to provide further leads.

Police cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation. A forensic team (FSL), dog squad, and District Intelligence Unit (DIU) have all been deployed to the scene. SDPO Alok Kumar, who personally inspected the area, said every investigative angle is being explored and expressed confidence that the case will be cracked soon.

“This is a brutal and tragic incident. We are pursuing all leads and using scientific methods to find those responsible,” Kumar said.

The beheading has left the village of Golma West reeling in fear and outrage. Locals are demanding swift justice and tighter security in the area. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the search for the missing head and the perpetrators continues.
