BSNL to Shut Down 3G Services in Bihar, Upgrading to 4G by January 15
Patna: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the discontinuation of its 3G network services across Bihar, urging customers to upgrade to 4G SIM cards by January 15. The transition aims to fully replace 3G with 4G network operations by March.
The new 4G SIM cards are being offered free of charge at BSNL service centers and offices. 3G data services have already been stopped in six districts, and SIM cards issued before 2017 are being replaced without any cost to the customer.
4G Rollout and 3G Phase-Out Strategy
BSNL’s strategy involves a complete shift to 4G by March, phasing out existing 3G infrastructure. With 40 lakh subscribers, of which over 50% are active users, BSNL has already discontinued 3G services in Munger, Khagaria, Begusarai, Katihar, and Motihari districts in the first phase of this transition.
The next phase will see 3G networks shut down in Patna and other remaining districts. Customers who continue to use 3G SIM cards after the switch will only have access to calling services, with data services becoming unavailable. BSNL Chief General Manager RK Chaudhary has confirmed that the 4G network is operational in several districts and that 3G data services will cease in the remaining areas from January 15.
Free 4G SIM Replacement Process
BSNL Mobile Service General Manager Shankar Prasad has announced a free SIM replacement program for customers using 3G SIMs. Customers can obtain a new 4G SIM card at no cost by visiting their nearest BSNL service center or office.
They will need to submit their old SIM card and provide a photo ID for verification. The free replacement offer applies to SIM cards issued before 2017, and the new SIM cards will also be compatible with 5G services in the future.
