Patna: By-elections will be held on November 13 for four assembly seats in Bihar: Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj, and Imamganj, with the results scheduled for November 23. These seats were vacated after their respective MLAs—Sudhakar Singh (Ramgarh), Sudama Prasad (Tarari), Surendra Yadav (Belaganj), and Jitan Ram Manjhi (Imamganj)—were elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections.

Along with Bihar, the Election Commission also announced assembly elections for Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Maharashtra will conduct its elections in one phase on November 20, while Jharkhand’s election will take place in two phases, on November 13 and 20. Results for both states will also be declared on November 23.

In Bihar, the MLAs who won Lok Sabha seats represent different political parties. Sudhakar Singh from Ramgarh is a member of RJD, Sudama Prasad from Tarari is with CPI ML, Surendra Yadav from Belaganj is also with RJD, and Jitan Ram Manjhi from Imamganj is associated with HAM.

In addition to the Bihar assembly by-elections, 48 assembly seats and two parliamentary seats across Maharashtra and Jharkhand will also see by-elections on November 13 and 20.

The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is set to end on November 26, while Jharkhand’s term will end on January 5, 2025. The Election Commission also addressed concerns related to EVMs, providing detailed clarifications on their security and use, amid public complaints.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar discussed the security of EVMs, explaining the rigorous checks that are carried out from six months before elections until the machines are returned after voting, ensuring transparency at every stage.
