Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against six individuals, including the General Manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Patna regional office, in connection with a high-profile bribery case. The move comes nearly two months after the agency arrested key officials accused of accepting and facilitating bribes for clearing project-related bills.
The CBI, in its filing submitted to a special court on Tuesday, named Rampreet Paswan (NHAI GM), Suresh Mahapatra (GM of M/s Ram Kripal Singh Construction Pvt. Ltd.), company employees Varun Kumar and Chetan Kumar, and others. The charges include violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The agency had earlier arrested Paswan along with company officials on 22 March 2025, following a sting operation where the NHAI GM was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh. The bribe was allegedly demanded to facilitate the approval of bills related to construction works managed by NHAI’s Patna office.
Following the arrests, CBI teams conducted raids in Patna, Ranchi, Varanasi, Samastipur, and other locations, recovering significant cash and incriminating documents. An earlier seizure in the case included Rs 1.10 crore in unaccounted cash.
A total of 12 individuals have been named in the FIR registered by the Delhi wing of the CBI, which is overseeing the investigation. The accused are currently lodged in Beur Jail under judicial custody.
