Chaos in Bihar Assembly: Opposition Protests, CM Nitish Kumar Takes a Dig at Rabri Devi

Patna : Chaos erupted in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on the eighth day of the session as opposition members staged a walkout following remarks by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The assembly witnessed heated exchanges, with protests both inside and outside the House.
Opposition leaders, including members of the CPI(ML) and RJD, raised slogans and gathered near the Speaker’s podium in protest. Tensions escalated when CM Nitish Kumar, addressing opposition leader Rabri Devi in the Legislative Council, remarked on the political transition in her family. He recalled how, after her husband Lalu Prasad vacated the Chief Minister’s post, she was appointed in his place. He also asserted that the House would be given a detailed account of Bihar’s condition before 2005 and the progress achieved since then.
His comments triggered strong reactions from the opposition benches, leading to a walkout. Expressing dissatisfaction, Rabri Devi accused the Nitish government of failing to control crime in the state.
Protests Inside and Outside the Assembly
Earlier in the day, CPI(ML) MLAs staged demonstrations in the assembly premises, demanding the implementation of the Bandhopadhyay Committee recommendations. Meanwhile, RJD legislators protested in the assembly portico, criticising the government over Bihar’s law and order situation.
Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav rejected an adjournment motion moved by the opposition, prompting MLAs to storm the well of the House in protest. CPI(ML) MLA Mehboob Alam was seen holding a poster, which security personnel later confiscated.
In the Legislative Council, Bansidhar Brajwasi protested near the main gate over delays in teacher transfers. He warned that if their demands were not met by the end of the budget session, teachers would take to the streets. He also alleged that salaries had not been paid for four months.
