Chaos Prevails at Patna Railway Stations as Kumbh Devotees Struggle for Space

Patna: With nearly a week remaining for the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, the situation at railway stations in Patna remains chaotic despite authorities’ claims of effective crowd management.
On Tuesday, thousands of devotees flocked to Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Patliputra, and Danapur stations, causing severe overcrowding. When the Magadh Express arrived at platform three at 6:30 pm, passengers rushed to board in a disorderly manner, filling the train within minutes. Similar scenes played out on the Sampoorna Kranti, Vikramshila, Shramjeevi, and Purva Express trains. With general compartments overflowing, many passengers forced their way into reserved coaches, exacerbating the chaos.
To manage the surge, the railway administration announced four special trains, but they, too, were packed beyond capacity. Thousands of passengers remained stranded, awaiting the next available train. The overcrowding on platforms led to significant difficulties for commuters.
Despite assurances of improved arrangements, the reality on the ground told a different story. Security on platforms was inadequate, and there was a lack of clear communication. Platforms one, three, four, and five were teeming with passengers, yet no proper signage was in place to guide them.
Outside the station premises, only makeshift tents had been erected as waiting areas, with no provisions for temporary ticket counters or enquiry desks. As a result, passengers struggled to obtain tickets and gather train information. The apparent lack of planning by the railway administration continues to add to the woes of stranded devotees.
