Chief Minister Inaugurates Construction of 6659 Playgrounds in Bihar's Gram Panchayats

Patna: The Chief Minister inaugurated the construction of 6659 playgrounds in 5671 Gram Panchayats across Bihar under the Rural Development Department. This ambitious initiative, part of the MNREGA program, aims to strengthen rural sports infrastructure and develop talent at the grassroots level.

In Patna district, 203 playground schemes were launched in 177 Gram Panchayats across all blocks under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate, with the participation of the Deputy Development Commissioner, Director of DRDA, and other district-level officers. These playgrounds include 36 large grounds (up to 4 acres), 49 medium-sized grounds (1 to 1.5 acres), and 118 small grounds (less than 1 acre).

Out of the 203 playground schemes, 130 will be built on government school premises, 72 on other government land, and one in an engineering college. The total sanctioned amount for these projects is Rs. 1914.57 lakhs. Each playground will feature a minimum of four sports facilities, including volleyball, basketball, badminton courts, and a running track, contributing to 904 sports facilities in Patna district alone.

This program is expected to play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing sports talent while establishing Bihar as a competitive state in sports at the national and international levels. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering sports development and empowering youth in rural areas.
