Muzaffarpur: A Chinese national, Li Jiaki (63), who was imprisoned on charges of entering India without a visa, died on Tuesday morning during treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).

On June 5, the Brahmpura police arrested him near Laxmichowk, after it was found that he did not have a valid visa and had entered the country illegally. Several senior police officers and various central investigative agencies interrogated him. The next day, he was presented before the court, which sent him to judicial custody at Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail.

On the evening of June 7, he attempted suicide in the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail. He severely injured his hand, chest, and private parts using broken pieces of his glasses in the jail’s restroom. He lost consciousness in the restroom due to excessive bleeding. After receiving initial treatment at the jail hospital, he was referred to SKMCH. Although doctors operated on him, they were unable to save his life.
