Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced big changes for women and workers linked to the Jeevika scheme in Bihar. On Saturday evening, he said that the honorarium (monthly pay) for all Jeevika workers will be doubled. This move will benefit around 1.40 lakh people working in different roles like training, administration, and field support for self-help groups.

Along with this, women in Jeevika self-help groups will now get cheaper bank loans. Earlier, they had to pay 10% interest on loans above Rs 3 lakh. Now, they will have to pay only 7%. Nitish Kumar said this will help improve the income and lifestyle of Jeevika members. The Jeevika scheme started in 2006 and now over 1.40 crore women across Bihar are part of it.
Just hours before this announcement, the Chief Minister also increased the monthly pension for the elderly, widows, and disabled people in the state. Their pension has gone up from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100. This change will help more than 1.09 crore people across Bihar.
These announcements come at a time when the state is preparing for assembly elections later this year. In the last few days, the Bihar government has also brought in a domicile policy for school jobs and increased the honorarium for elected panchayat leaders like Mukhiyas and Ward Members. The Chief Minister is taking quick decisions to reach more people with government benefits.
