CNLU Launches SC/ST Cell to Promote Inclusivity and Support for Marginalised Communities
Patna: Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, inaugurated its SC/ST Cell on Wednesday, a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and addressing socio-economic challenges faced by marginalised communities. The event was graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa, Chief Guest Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan, faculty convenors Nidhi Kumari and Abhishek Kumar, and attended by faculty members, staff, and students.
The SC/ST Cell, established in line with UGC guidelines, aims to provide support through awareness campaigns about scholarships, counselling services, and initiatives to promote inclusivity on campus. The cell underscores CNLU’s commitment to equality and respect for all students.
Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa highlighted the cultural and academic challenges faced by students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. He expressed concern over rising suicide rates linked to academic stress and emphasised the need for affirmative action to create an inclusive learning environment where students can progress at their own pace. He also called for stronger legal frameworks to address the inequalities faced by SC/ST communities.
Chief Guest Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan shared insights from his personal journey, reflecting on the importance of self-confidence and responsibility in navigating law school. He emphasised that social sensitivity goes beyond diversity and stressed the varied interpretations of merit in different contexts. Citing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he highlighted the contradiction between political equality and the unfulfilled goal of socio-economic equality.
The SC/ST Cell at CNLU represents a meaningful effort to uphold constitutional values, address social inequalities, and promote mutual respect. It stands as a testament to the university’s dedication to creating an equitable and inclusive academic environment.
