Cold Wave Grips Bihar: Schools Shut in Several Districts
Patna: All 38 districts of Bihar are expected to experience cloudy conditions today, with the possibility of light rain in 11 districts. A dense fog alert has been issued for 23 districts, where visibility is predicted to range between 50 to 150 meters.
A new western disturbance is anticipated to impact North-West India by January 14, potentially leading to weather changes. While a recent period of warmer temperatures and sunshine had offered some respite from the severe cold, the rain that fell on Sunday evening has once again brought a chill.
Light drizzle was reported in Patna and Buxar on Sunday, and cold winds have been blowing in Patna since Monday morning. The fog has further exacerbated the cold conditions.
To mitigate the impact of the cold weather, schools from class 1 to 8 in Patna, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and Rohtas have been closed until January 15. Schools for classes 9 to 12 in these districts will operate on a modified schedule, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
The Meteorological Department forecasts a 2 to 3-degree increase in the minimum temperature by January 15, however, the cold is expected to persist due to the influence of cold winds.
Fog Alert Issued for 23 Districts
The 23 districts under the dense fog alert include West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Buxar, Bhojpur, and Arwal.
Seven trains at Patna Junction have experienced delays due to the fog.
Rohtas recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.0 degrees Celsius on Sunday. In contrast, Araria was the hottest district in the past 24 hours, with a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius.
