Congress Protest Ends Abruptly After Police Intervention

Patna: Congress protest in Bihar demanding the arrest of businessman Gautam Adani and opposing the violence in Manipur turned into a symbolic gesture, lasting barely half an hour. The protest, which was supposed to be a march from the Congress office to the Raj Bhavan, ended abruptly after the police stopped the protesters just 500 meters into the march. Despite prior announcements, Bihar Pradesh Congress President Akhilesh Singh and other senior leaders were notably absent.

The protest, part of a nationwide agitation, was poorly attended by senior party figures. Congress leaders participating in the demonstration raised slogans against the central government, accusing it of dictatorship and mishandling key national issues. Bihar Pradesh Congress Secretary said, “There is a situation of anarchy in the whole country. Modi and Amit Shah’s dictatorship is going on. Manipur is burning, and Adani’s government is running the country. Neither Modi nor Yogi has children; how will they understand the pain of the people? When we took to the streets with our demands, the police stopped us.”

Congress leaders also accused the government of shielding Gautam Adani, stating that despite a non-bailable warrant issued against him in the United States for fraud, no action has been taken. They criticized the government’s lack of response to the ongoing violence in Manipur.

The protest saw the participation of former ministers and MLAs, including Pratima Das, former state executive president Kaukab Qadri, former minister Kripashankar, Mahila Congress President Sarwat Jahan Fatima, and former Legislative Councilor Ajay Kumar. However, senior leaders like Madan Mohan Jha, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, and other top figures were absent, raising questions about the seriousness of the effort. Ultimately, the protest failed to make any significant impact, leaving party workers disappointed.
