Continuous Rain Causes Ganga to Swell in Bhagalpur, Flood Alert Issued
Bhagalpur: Continuous rainfall over the past two days has caused the Ganga River to swell, raising concerns of flooding in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The water level has risen by 15 cm, and water has begun entering low-lying areas of the district. Several Ganga ghats, including the one at Sultanganj, are now just 2 cm below the danger mark.
In response, the district administration has intensified monitoring efforts to ensure the safety of residents and pilgrims. The Uttar Vahini Ganga at Sultanganj is also experiencing a significant rise in water levels. This area is currently hosting the Shravani Mela, attracting lakhs of devotees daily. To manage the situation, the administration is continuously raising barricades along the riverbanks to prevent any mishaps for the Kanwariyas.
The district administration has made extensive arrangements for the safety of the Kanwariyas, including the deployment of boats at the ghats. Devotees from across the country and abroad gather at Uttar Vahini Ganga in Sultanganj to collect water for their journey to Deoghar, where they offer it to Lord Bholenath.
The District Officer commented on the situation, stating, “Our flood control division is actively monitoring the rising water levels. We are raising the barricades as needed to ensure devotees can bathe and collect water safely. We have also installed nets for additional security, and our team is overseeing the ghats with boats. We advise all devotees to take necessary precautions and bathe in shallow waters.”
