Covid-19 Infection on the Rise in Patna as Cases Reach 46

Covid-19 cases surge in Patna with 10 new infections in a day, total reaches 46; virus spreads to Bakhtiyarpur as RT-PCR testing begins in private labs.

Patna: Covid-19 cases are once again climbing in Patna, with health officials confirming 10 new infections in last 24 hours the highest single-day tally since the resurgence began on May 23.

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 46. Despite the uptick, no hospitalisations have been reported. Seventeen patients have recovered under home isolation, and the virus has now spread to additional localities, including Bakhtiyarpur block.

Civil Surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh said that among the latest cases are an intern doctor from Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), one resident each from Golpura and Anisabad, and an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) from Medanta Jayprabha hospital. Another case has been detected in a patient who visited NMCH’s medicine outpatient department; however, this case has not yet been formally recorded by the Health Department.

Currently, 28 patients are receiving treatment in the district.

*Private Labs Begin RT-PCR Testing*

While major government hospitals such as NMCH, AIIMS Patna, IGIMS and PMCH continue to handle testing for symptomatic individuals, several private pathology labs have also begun offering RT-PCR testing services.

Officials attribute the rise in infections to widespread non-compliance with Covid-appropriate behaviour. “Many people are no longer observing physical distancing or wearing masks,” said a health department source. “Even within hospitals, there is a lack of awareness.”

Meanwhile, a significant number of residents in the state capital are reportedly experiencing symptoms such as coughs, headaches, and fevers. Many have attributed the symptoms to fluctuating weather conditions, potentially delaying timely testing and treatment.
