Darbhanga: Passenger air services from Darbhanga marked a significant milestone on Thursday, with the Darbhanga–Delhi route witnessing a record eight flights in a single day — the highest since services began under the regional UDAN scheme on November 8, 2020.
For the first time, four aircraft operated on the route from a single airline, SpiceJet, while Akasa Air and IndiGo contributed two flights each. Aviation representatives cited consistently high passenger demand on the Delhi route as the primary reason behind the increased frequency.
Currently, Darbhanga Airport offers flight services to five destinations: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad. As per the official flight schedule, a total of 10 aircraft are expected to operate daily on the Darbhanga–Delhi route. However, airlines have so far fallen short of this target.
While SpiceJet and Akasa Air are allotted two daily flights each on the Delhi route, they usually operate only one, with IndiGo being the only airline maintaining full service as per its allocated slot.
Thursday saw a total of 14 flights operating out of Darbhanga, with eight bound for Delhi and six covering other metro routes — Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The previous day, 2,343 passengers had travelled via 16 flights from the airport.
