Darbhanga: In a major push to resolve chronic traffic congestion in Darbhanga, the Bihar government has approved ₹1,868.87 crore for the construction of Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) and an elevated road corridor, connecting key parts of the city. The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting held in Patna on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, included Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi, Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni, Additional Chief Secretary Mihir Kumar Singh, and Managing Director of Bihar State Road Construction Corporation Shirshat Kapil, along with other senior officials.
Green Light for Elevated Corridor and Road Upgradation
The state cabinet has cleared the way for starting construction by fast-tracking the tender process for the elevated corridor and upgradation of the road from Darbhanga Railway Station to the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway (via Donar Chowk and Karpuri Chowk) and from Karpuri Chowk to Ekmi Chowk (via Laheriasarai Tower and Lohia Chowk).
“This will be a historic step in eliminating the long-standing problem of traffic jams in Darbhanga,” said Minister Sanjay Saraogi in a press release.
Donar ROB Construction Clears Hurdles
There was a focused discussion on the Donar Railway Over Bridge, one of the most congested zones in the city. Minister Saraogi informed that all land acquisition and legal hurdles have been cleared, and construction activity will soon be visible on the ground.
“This ROB will bring daily relief to thousands of commuters. Its completion will mark a significant improvement in urban mobility,” he added.
Progress Reviewed for Other Critical ROBs
The meeting also reviewed the status of under-construction ROBs at:
- Delhi Mor
- Pandasarai
- Chatti Chowk
- Kangwa Gumti
Minister Saraogi reiterated that these ROBs have been a long-pending demand of Darbhanga residents. He emphasized the timely completion of all projects and assured that personal monitoring is being carried out to ensure no delay or obstacle hampers the work.
Vision for a Jam-Free Darbhanga
“This is not just an infrastructure push; it is the fulfillment of a years-old resolution to transform Darbhanga into a city with modern, safe, and smooth traffic systems,” said Saraogi. “With public cooperation and government will, this vision is finally gaining momentum.”
