
Nalanda/ Patna: At least 21 people, including five children, have died in Bihar’s Nalanda district following a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall, officials confirmed on Friday.
Fatalities were reported from multiple locations, with causes ranging from falling trees and collapsing walls to structural failures. In a particularly tragic incident, six people—four of them children—lost their lives when a temple wall collapsed during the storm.
Five others, including a 10-year-old child, were killed in separate incidents of falling trees across the district.
A family of three perished after a bridge collapsed near Balmat Bigha village in the Islampur police station area. Two more family members were injured and are receiving treatment.
Elsewhere, a woman and her son—Lalita Devi and Ayush Kumar—died in Dekpura village under Rahui police station limits when a wall gave way during the downpour.
Casualties were also reported from Vishanpur, where one person died, and from Nursarai, where two deaths occurred—one from a falling tree and another from a fall from a rooftop amid gusty winds.
Two deaths were reported in Chainpura village, though local authorities are still verifying the exact cause.
In Bhagan Bigha OP police station area, 60-year-old Magahi Devi was buried under debris and succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, 65-year-old Chinta Devi died in Gulla Vigha village of the Ben police station area when her house wall collapsed.
