Hajipur: A delegation of community leaders has urged the Union government to name the under-construction six-lane bridge over the Ganga in Hajipur after Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru. The proposal was submitted during a meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at his Delhi residence on Monday.
The delegation included Vinod Kumar Singh Yadav, area coordinator for Hindu Jagran in Bihar and Jharkhand; Sardar Mahendra Pal Singh Dhillon, president of the Dharm Prachar Committee of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib; Harpal Singh Johal, a member of the Patna Takht management; Sardar Damanjit Singh, president of Mata Janaki Harihar Kshetra Seva Nyas; and Varun Sinha, a Supreme Court advocate.
During the meeting, the minister expressed his support for the initiative, stating that he would “sympathetically consider the request” and make efforts to honour it.
Guru Gobind Singh, who was born in Patna in 1666, is widely revered for his teachings and his role in shaping Sikh philosophy. Advocates of the naming initiative argue that dedicating the bridge to him would be a fitting tribute to his legacy and spiritual contribution to the region.
The proposed bridge, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between northern Bihar and Patna, is currently under construction and is part of a broader infrastructure development plan for the region.
