Dense Fog Alert Issued for 12 Bihar Districts as Temperature Set to Drop from Feb 6
Patna: A yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in 12 districts of Bihar on Saturday, while dry weather is expected in 26 districts. The minimum temperature is forecast to range between 10°C and 14°C across most parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are likely to change from February 3, with a further drop in minimum temperatures expected from February 6. The falling temperatures could lead to an increase in cold conditions across Bihar.
Aurangabad recorded the lowest temperature in the last 24 hours, with a minimum of 6.7°C on Friday. Jamui and Banka followed, registering 6.9°C and 9.8°C, respectively. Meanwhile, Aurangabad was also the warmest district, with a maximum temperature of 30.1°C.
In response to the weather conditions, the Patna district administration has revised school timings. Patna district magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh has ordered that all schools in the city will now operate from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm between February 1 and 8.
The IMD has also warned of the impact of western disturbances on February 1 and 3, with the latter expected to be stronger. These disturbances could lead to snowfall in the mountainous regions and rainfall in the plains, potentially affecting Bihar as well.
From February 6, cold winds are expected to enter north Bihar, leading to a temperature drop, though conditions are unlikely to reach severe cold day levels. A mild increase in cold is anticipated.
According to the IMD, dense fog was observed in areas near the Himalayan foothills, while minimum temperatures increased by 1°C to 2°C. The state has so far experienced a relatively milder winter compared to last year, with no extreme cold spells recorded in late December or early January.
