Deputy Chief Minister Highlights Key Priorities for Bihar’s 2025-26 Budget

Patna: Deputy Chief Minister- cum- finance minister Samrat Chaudhary outlined the Bihar government’s priorities for the financial year 2025-26, emphasizing a budget focused on education, health, industry, infrastructure, employment, and rural development. Speaking at a consultative meeting with experts and stakeholders from diverse fields, Chaudhary highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and economic development.

The deputy CM announced that the state is acquiring 10,000 acres of land for industrial projects as part of efforts to boost Bihar’s economy. “The fourth agricultural roadmap is already in place, strengthening the rural economy, while agricultural feeders are being installed to provide reliable electricity to farms,” he said. He also noted Bihar’s fiscal progress, moving from a budget of Rs 24,000 crore to Rs 2.78 lakh crore under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

Proposals for Industrial Growth

The Bihar Industries Association (BIA) recommended establishing three to four industrial zones equipped with the necessary infrastructure. Locations such as Kaimur, Thakurganj, Purnia, Begusarai, Sonpur, and Hajipur were suggested for industrial townships. The BIA also called for separate land classifications and fixed rates for industrial land to attract investors.

Stakeholders advocated for policies to attract investment in the pharmaceutical sector and proposed a “one state, one rate” policy for piped natural gas (PNG) to create a favorable business environment.

Business Community Recommendations

The Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries submitted a memorandum with suggestions to enhance the industry, IT, and taxation sectors. Their proposals included increasing the industry department’s budget, establishing land banks, allocating land to enterprises, and aligning electricity tariffs with those of neighboring states.

The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts, inviting stakeholders to contribute to making the 2025-26 budget a roadmap for Bihar’s development. The state government’s approach underscores its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and innovation.
