Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav Inaugurates Historic Sonpur Fair, Emphasizes Preservation of Tradition
Sonepur: The globally renowned Harihar Kshetra Sonepur Mela received a ceremonial inauguration by Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday. Acknowledging the fair’s extensive history, Tejashwi highlighted its ancient roots, tracing back to the Mauryan period and drawing attention to the notable purchases made by rulers, including Mughal emperors.
In his address, the deputy CM addressed the prohibition of wildlife purchases in contemporary times due to legal constraints. He assured the public of the government’s commitment to upholding the law while working towards enhancing the prosperity of the Sonpeur Mela. Encouraging the provision of excellent hospitality, Tejashwi aimed to attract visitors repeatedly.
During the inauguration ceremony, Science and Technology Minister Sumit Kumar Singh, presiding over the event, emphasized the ongoing efforts to enrich the Sonpeur Mela, aiming to attract a growing number of tourists. The program featured addresses by Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Alok Mehta, Art Culture Minister Jitendra Kumar Rai, Labor Resources Minister Surendra Ram, and other public representatives.
The evening’s festivities included a cultural program featuring the Bollywood singer Shraddha Pandit, renowned for the song “Sasural Genda Phool.” The audience was captivated by the performance. Saran District Magistrate Aman Sameer extended a warm welcome to the guests, and Tourism Director Vinay Kumar Rai delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the successful inauguration.
