Deputy CM Vijay Sinha Assures Swift Relief for Farmers Hit by Unseasonal Rain in Bihar

Patna: Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, on Saturday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to shielding farmers from the financial impact of unseasonal rain and strong winds, which have damaged standing crops across several districts.

The deputy CM said that reports of crop damage are being reviewed urgently and promised timely compensation for affected cultivators. “The government will not allow any harm to come to our farmers under any circumstances. Whether it is a disaster or an opportunity, we stand firmly with them,” he said.

He highlighted that recent erratic weather conditions have likely affected key crops, including wheat, summer moong, urad, sesame, maize, groundnut, betel leaf, pigeon pea, banana, and onions — many of which were nearing harvest. The resulting losses, he noted, could be substantial for farmers already working under pressure.

District magistrates have been instructed to carry out field surveys and submit their findings without delay. “All district magistrates have been directed to carry out field surveys, and once the assessment reports are submitted, necessary compensation and assistance will be disbursed swiftly,” Sinha added.

District agriculture officers have also been directed to report their assessments directly to the state headquarters. Sinha said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is committed to providing all possible support to farmers during such crises.
