Patna: In a move reflecting an administrative overhaul, the Bihar Education Department has redistributed responsibilities between two senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers following the recent appointment of a second secretary.
Dinesh Kumar, a senior IAS officer, has been posted as Secretary in the Education Department by the General Administration Department. His appointment adds to the existing leadership structure, with IAS officer Ajay Yadav already holding additional charge as Education Secretary.
In response to the dual leadership, the department announced a revised division of duties on Tuesday. According to the new arrangement, Ajay Yadav will now oversee matters related to the Directorate of Higher Education. His portfolio includes reviewing files submitted by the Higher Education Director that require the Chief Minister’s approval, and addressing specific issues that call for the clearance of the Additional Chief Secretary.
Ajay Yadav has also been tasked with approving fact statements in legal matters linked to the Higher Education Directorate. In addition, he will supervise skill development initiatives in schools across the state and will hold senior oversight responsibilities for the Bihar Open Schooling Education and Examination Board.
