Nalanda: A man was killed and his eight-year-old son injured in a road accident on Thursday night in Bihar’s Nalanda district, prompting local residents to block National Highway 33 (NH-33) in protest the following morning.
Vikesh Kumar, a resident of Gadaichak village in Parwalpur block, was returning home from work on his motorcycle with his son, Raju Kumar, at around 10pm. He had just closed his kiosk near the Patel Agro Ethanol Plant in the Ben police station area. As the two approached Chhotu Dharm Kanta in Parwalpur, an unidentified vehicle travelling from Bihar Sharif struck their bike.
Kumar died on the spot. His son sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
On Friday morning, villagers placed Kumar’s body near the Satmuhama bridge and blocked traffic on NH-33 for about an hour. They demanded proper compensation for the bereaved family and the arrest of the unidentified driver.
Parwalpur Station House Officer (SHO), Sanjeev Kumar Singh, said police received information about the accident during a routine patrol. Officers reached the scene shortly after and arranged medical treatment for the child. Kumar’s body was sent for a postmortem at Sadar Hospital before being handed over to the family.
Local residents described Kumar as the sole breadwinner of his household. He worked in an aluminium factory and ran a small kiosk in the evenings to make ends meet. “The family is devastated,” said one villager. “We want justice and financial support for them.”
