Father Sells Daughter for Two Lakhs: Bihar Police Crack Down on Human Trafficking Operation
BHAGALPUR – The harrowing practice of human trafficking continues unabated in Bihar, with a recent revelation by Naugachia Police shedding light on the trade of daughters in the guise of marriage.
A shocking incident unfolded in Simaria village of Tintanga Diara Gyandas Tola in OP, where a minor girl (16 years old) from Diara was reportedly sold by her father to an individual from Rajasthan for a sum of two lakhs.
Late on Tuesday night, the police received information about the illicit transaction and promptly took action, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including the father involved in this reprehensible act. Navgachi SP Sushant Kumar Saroj briefed journalists on Wednesday about the arrests and the concerning trend of trafficking disguised as marriages.
The arrested individuals include the broker responsible for facilitating the transaction and the buyer from Rajasthan. SP Saroj emphasized that people from other states, such as Rajasthan, often exploit impoverished families, taking advantage of their financial struggles and engaging in marriages under the pretext of monetary transactions.
The arrested girl’s father, who played a central role in orchestrating the sale, has also been taken into custody. The police acted swiftly upon receiving information, preventing further harm to the minor victim.
SP Saroj provided details about Kare Mandal, a local broker, who reportedly liaises with individuals from other states, organizing weddings in exchange for money. The investigation has revealed a network involved in orchestrating such transactions. The two individuals from Rajasthan, along with the local broker and the father, are currently undergoing interrogation.
The SP issued a public appeal, urging people to remain vigilant and not fall prey to such deceptive practices. He highlighted the various government schemes providing financial assistance from the birth of a girl child until her marriage and encouraged communities to avail themselves of these resources rather than succumb to illicit transactions.
