Patna: The Transport Department has revised the fines for vehicles failing pollution tests, categorizing the penalties based on vehicle type. Previously, a uniform fine of ₹10,000 was imposed on all vehicles. Under the new system, the fines range from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 depending on the category of the vehicle.
For two-wheelers, the fine is now ₹1,000 for the first violation and ₹1,500 for the second. Tricycles face a fine of ₹1,500 initially and ₹2,000 for a repeat offense. Light vehicles will be fined ₹2,000 the first time and ₹3,000 if the violation is repeated. Medium vehicles are subject to fines of ₹3,000 and ₹4,000, respectively, while heavy vehicles face the steepest penalties of ₹5,000 initially and ₹10,000 for a second offense. Other vehicles are fined ₹1,500 and ₹2,000 for the first and second violations, respectively.
The Transport Department has also emphasized the importance of timely updates to pollution certificates, warning that failure to do so will result in the issuance of e-challans. Vehicle owners are urged to ensure their certificates are up to date to avoid penalty actions.
