Flood Chaos in Purnia: Rivers Overflow, Residents Relocate to Safety
Purnia: Heavy rains in the Terai region of Nepal have caused flooding in Purnia district, Bihar. The Mahananda, Kankai, and Parman rivers have overflowed, inundating villages and affecting thousands of residents.
In Raibare Panchayat, homes have been washed away by the water, forcing residents to flee. Abdul Rauf and Shagufta Begum lost their home, and over 50 more houses are at risk. Villagers like Mohammad Junaid, Shafiq Alam, and Sahroj have dismantled their homes and sought refuge elsewhere.
The village of Simalbari Nagartol has been hit hard, with floodwaters entering many houses. Residents are facing a shortage of drinking water and food, and there have been no reports of officials reaching the village.
The rising water levels in the Parman River have put several villages at risk. Similarly, the swelling Kankai River has threatened other villages. Residents in these areas are relocating to higher ground with their livestock.
The situation is also concerning in villages along the Mahananda River, where rising water levels have caused panic among residents.
The local administration is monitoring the situation. Anuj Kumar, the Circle Officer of Baisi, stated that officials are conducting inspections of the affected areas.
Rescue and relief efforts are underway, but the extent of the damage and the number of people displaced are yet to be fully assessed. The floods have disrupted normal life in Purnia.
