Gaya ASI Found Dead After Allegedly Shooting Himself with Service Revolver

Gaya / Patna : An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at the Gaya Police Line was found dead on Thursday morning, allegedly after shooting himself with his service revolver. The deceased, identified as Neeraj Kumar (40), was a resident of Shringarpur village in the Suryagarha police station area of Lakhisarai district.

Body Discovered After IPL Match

According to fellow policemen, Neeraj Kumar was last seen watching an IPL match with colleagues in the barracks on Wednesday night. After the match ended, everyone retired to their respective quarters. However, when they woke up on Thursday morning, they discovered Neeraj’s blood-soaked body lying in the lawn, with a bullet wound to the head. His service revolver was found nearby.

Senior police officers, including SSP Anand Kumar, rushed to the scene after receiving the information. DSP Dharmendra Bharti confirmed that the body had been sent for postmortem and the family had been informed. “Further action will be taken once the family arrives,” he said.

Recent Return from Leave

Neeraj Kumar had returned to duty on Tuesday after 39 days of leave. He was posted at Mufassil police station for the past one and a half years. On Wednesday afternoon, he reportedly spoke to his station inspector to confirm his return to duty.

Stress May Have Led to Suicide

Vishwajit Singh, executive president of the Bihar Police Men’s Association, suggested that Neeraj Kumar was under significant stress, both professionally and personally. “He had injured his hand during volleyball practice, and the condition was worsening. This, coupled with departmental and domestic pressures, may have contributed to his mental distress,” Singh said.

Second Suicide in Gaya Police Line This Week

This incident comes just days after a female constable, Vibha Kumari, was found dead by suicide in her barrack in the Rampur police station area. The constable, posted at Gaya Police Centre, was found hanging on Monday morning, triggering panic in the police campus. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected samples from the scene, and senior officers are investigating both cases.
