Giriraj Singh Unveils NIFT Begusarai Extension Centre, MOU Signed with NSDC for Skill Development
Begusarai: The highly anticipated National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Extension Centre in Begusarai was inaugurated today by the Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh. Marking a significant moment for the region, the event also featured the launch of a three-day workshop designed to teach participants basic tailoring and garment construction skills. The Minister toured the facilities, including the pattern-making section, Garment Construction Lab, and classrooms, engaging with the trainees and urging them to maximise the educational resources available at the centre.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between NIFT and the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) was signed during the ceremony. In his address, Giriraj Singh underscored the centre’s role in fostering inclusive growth, particularly among marginalised communities. He emphasised NIFT’s contribution to cultivating a craft-based skilled workforce, vital to the fashion industry. Singh also spoke of his vision for India’s textile sector, describing how it could play a pivotal role in advancing the country towards economic superpower status.
The inauguration saw the felicitation of several key figures by Colonel Rahul Sharma, Director of NIFT Patna. Colonel Vikrant Lakhanpal, Registrar of NIFT, welcomed guests and highlighted the centre’s significance in empowering local youth and promoting the textile industry in Bihar. He said the initiative aims to enhance employability and develop skilled manpower in the region.
The event was attended by a number of notable dignitaries, including Surendra Mehta, Bihar’s Minister of Sports, Kundan Kumar, MLA for Begusarai, and various local officials, such as Raj Kumar Singh, MLA Matihani, Sarvesh Kumar Singh, MLC, and Satyendra Kumar Singh, Municipal Commissioner of Begusarai Nagar Nigam. Their collective presence underscored the centre’s potential impact on the socio-economic development of Begusarai.
