Goa-Style Water Sports Set to Transform Tourism in Eight Bihar Districts

Patna: The Bihar government has announced a major push to promote adventure tourism by setting up water sports facilities in key tourist destinations across the state. Inspired by Goa’s popularity, the initiative is expected to transform travel experiences in Bihar and attract both domestic and international tourists.

Facilities have already been launched in Patna, East Champaran (Motihari), West Champaran, and Banka. In Patna’s Digha area, visitors are enjoying rides on the Ganga River, while Moti Lake in Motihari, Amwa forest in West Champaran, and Odhani Lake in Banka have also become water sports hubs.

The next phase will see the launch of water sports in Muzaffarpur, Munger, Purnia, and Gaya. The state tourism department has confirmed that necessary permissions have been granted for Haveli Kharagpur Lake in Munger, Manika Lake in Muzaffarpur, and various water bodies in Gaya. Efforts are underway to secure local clearances in Purnia.

Tourist infrastructure is being developed at these locations, starting with facilities tailored to the geography and demand of each site. A significant investment of ₹476.11 lakh has been earmarked for Manika Man Lake in Muzaffarpur, where a multipurpose tourism complex will be constructed. The project will include a double-height dining space, kitchen, open seating deck, multipurpose hall, parking zone, children’s park, and water sports amenities.

High-speed motorboats are also being introduced to enhance the thrill factor, especially for younger and adventure-seeking tourists. The initiative is expected to increase the duration of tourist stays, offering visitors an engaging mix of heritage exploration and modern adventure.
