Habitual Offenders in Bihar to Face Property Confiscation: DGP Vinay Kumar

Bihar Police

Patna: In a bid to tighten the noose around repeat offenders, Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has directed officials to identify habitual criminals and initiate proceedings to confiscate properties acquired through criminal activities. The directive came during a high-level review meeting held at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday, which was attended by regional officers and senior police officials via video conferencing.

The DGP clearly stated that delays in identifying repeat offenders and submitting confiscation proposals would not be tolerated. He emphasized that all district units must act swiftly and submit proposals within the stipulated time frame. Action will be taken under the provisions of the new criminal laws, based on these reports.

“Officers must ensure that proposals for property seizure are submitted promptly. Any negligence in this regard will be viewed seriously,” DGP Kumar warned.

Focus on Law and Order, Speedy Trials

During the meeting, the DGP also reviewed the law and order situation, status of pending cases, and progress in speedy trials. In response to rising public safety concerns, he instructed that police officers and emergency vehicles be strategically deployed to ensure rapid response to incidents.

Currently, about 2,000 emergency response vehicles are active across the state. Kumar ordered that the response time be reduced further, and sought updates on progress in major criminal cases under fast-track prosecution.

He also directed police officials to identify and remove administrative hurdles delaying the resolution of pending cases. Addressing the issue of attacks on police personnel, the DGP instructed officials to take strict and immediate action against those responsible.

EOU Probing Buxar Firing; Action in Patna Gunfire Case

Speaking to the media after the meeting, DGP Vinay Kumar confirmed that a team from the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) has been dispatched to probe the Buxar firing incident, which claimed three lives. He assured that every criminal incident is being closely monitored.

On the recent firing in Patna, he said that several suspects have already been identified and many have been detained. The DGP also mentioned that action is underway to free illegally occupied government land across the state.

Expressing concern over the growing involvement of youth in criminal activities, the DGP stressed the crucial role of families and society in preventing crime. “Reform begins at home. The role of parents and community leaders is vital in guiding the youth away from criminal tendencies,” he added.
