‘Health Bell’ to Ring Weekly in Bihar’s Government Schools Under Wellness Program

Patna: In a bid to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being among students, the Bihar Education Department has announced that a dedicated ‘Health Bell’ will ring once a week in all government schools from Class 6 to 12. The initiative will be implemented under the School Health and Wellness Programme.
The announcement was made through a circular issued on Monday by Dr. S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, to all District Education Officers (DEOs) and District Programme Officers (DPOs).
Health Bell to Ring on Tuesday or Wednesday
As per the directive, one period in the weekly school timetable will be 2reserved for the health session, to be conducted on either Tuesday or Wednesday. During this time, trained teachers—referred to as Health and Wellness Ambassadors—will hold interactive sessions focusing on life skills, hygiene, mental health, nutrition, and overall wellness.
Trained Teachers to Lead Wellness Sessions
Two teachers in each government school have been trained to serve as Health and Wellness Ambassadors. They will be responsible for conducting the sessions and guiding students on health-related topics as part of the National School Health Programme, which is being rolled out across all districts.
Monitoring and Reporting Through Mobile App
To ensure accountability and proper implementation, the ambassadors will submit monthly reports via the CAHP mobile application. Additionally, school principals will also report their schools’ health program activities through the same platform.
Focus on Holistic Student Development
According to the department, the program’s goal is to ensure the holistic development of students by building awareness around life skills, physical fitness, mental health, and personal hygiene. The District Programme Officer will serve as the nodal officer for overseeing the program in each district.
