Patna: Large parts of Bihar continued to reel under scorching temperatures and sticky humidity on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a hot and humid day across most districts, except Araria, Kishanganj and Katihar, which are expected to see some respite.

According to the latest Heat Wave Bulletin issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre, temperatures soared past 40°C in several locations on Friday. Dehri recorded the highest at 42.2°C, followed closely by Gopalganj (41.5°C), Gaya (41.0°C), and Patna (40.4°C), with minimum relative humidity levels ranging between 18% and 44%, adding to the discomfort.

Despite the persistent heat, no formal heatwave (loo) conditions were reported from any station. However, the thermal index and synoptic analysis indicate continued high discomfort due to a combination of elevated temperature and humidity levels.

Monsoon Set to Advance Soon

There is some relief in sight. The IMD has stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of the southwest monsoon over parts of Vidarbha, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh in the next two days, followed by parts of Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar over the subsequent three days.

No Heat Alert for Sunday

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Saturday, warning of heat and humidity for all districts except Araria, Kishanganj and Katihar. However, no alert has been issued for Sunday (June 15), indicating a likely drop in temperature and the possibility of changing weather patterns as monsoon approaches.
