Heavy Rainfall Likely in North-Eastern Bihar Till May 31, IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert

Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in north-eastern Bihar amid warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. The intensified weather activity is linked to a developing cyclonic system in the Bay of Bengal.
As of Thursday morning, the IMD confirmed that yesterday’s well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal has now concentrated into a depression. It was centred at 5:30 am IST today over northwest Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts, near latitude 20.8° N and longitude 88.4° E — approximately 100 km south-southeast of Sagar Island, 130 km southeast of Digha, 190 km east-northeast of Paradip, and 210 km west-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
The system is expected to move nearly northwards, intensify further into a deep depression, and cross the West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara by the afternoon of May 29. This movement is forecast to bring widespread rainfall and severe weather to Bihar and neighbouring states.
Districts on Alert:
According to IMD Patna, districts like Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Bhagalpur, Jamui, and Banka are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms between May 29 and 31.
