Heightened Security Along Indo-Nepal Border in Bihar After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Patna: Following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies have intensified vigilance along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar. Key border points such as Raxaul, Kishanganj, and Madhubani are witnessing strict checking and round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any cross-border infiltration or suspicious activity.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police are jointly conducting a high-alert security operation. Every individual and vehicle crossing the border is being thoroughly checked. Security personnel are using scanner machines, X-ray devices, and dog squads to inspect baggage and monitor movement.
Tight Vigil on Raxaul-Birgunj Border, Footpaths Under Watch
The Raxaul-Birgunj corridor, one of the busiest border crossings between India and Nepal, has seen a surge in security deployment. The 47th Battalion of SSB has been deployed in larger numbers. Additional surveillance is ongoing in surrounding border points including Sahdeva, Mahdeva, Mushaharwa, Siwan Tola, and Bhelahi.
All individuals entering Indian territory via the Raxaul Maitri Bridge and nearby footpaths are being screened. Security personnel are checking identity cards and belongings with the help of modern scanners and sniffing dogs.
Special Campaign in Kishanganj Border Areas
A special investigation campaign has been launched in Kishanganj, with orders from District Magistrate Sagar Kumar to increase patrolling, particularly in high-footfall areas like railway stations and religious sites. Bags in vehicle trunks are being scanned, and all movements are being recorded via videography.
SSB jawans are conducting identity verification of every individual passing through the area.
24-Hour Security and Barricading in Madhubani Sector
In Madhubani district, the 48th Battalion of SSB has been stationed along border areas including Jaynagar, Harlakhi, Madhavapur, and Laukha. Officers at the Pipraon SSB camp are personally overseeing operations. Barricading has been enforced 24×7, with continuous patrolling on adjacent footpaths using dog squads and mobile units.
Intelligence Inputs Prompt Heightened Alert
Security arrangements have been ramped up based on intelligence inputs suggesting possible threats from across the border. Local residents and business owners in border areas have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
An official said, “Due to the open nature of the Indo-Nepal border, there is a high possibility of infiltration. We are maintaining strict security to ensure no disturbance in the internal security of the country. The situation is under control, but forces remain on high alert.”
