Patna: Patna Women’s College, an autonomous institution under Patna University, inaugurated its Heritage Club with a guest lecture held in Carmel Hall. The lecture, presented on October 28, 2024, featured Goutami Bhattacharya from the Archaeological Survey of India, who has an M.A. in Ancient Indian History and Archaeology from Lucknow University and a postgraduate diploma from the Institute of Archaeology.

Bhattacharya’s lecture, titled “Archaeology: Explorations and Excavation,” offered insights into archaeological practices, including chronology, site exploration, and excavation. Her references to historical sites like Harappa, Uren, Shinauli, and Bhimbetka helped students connect theory with real-world examples, making the session highly engaging.

Mahrukh Firdaus moderated the event, which began with a ceremonial welcome by Swati Sinha, Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Heritage Club Coordinator, who presented Bhattacharya with a plant sapling. The engaging lecture concluded with an interactive question and answer session, allowing students to deepen their understanding of the topic.

The session closed with a Vote of Thanks by Prerna, marking a successful inauguration of the Heritage Club and leaving students inspired to learn more about India’s archaeological heritage.
