IIT Patna to Host Pioneering Event on Thermal Spray Technology

Patna: IIT Patna is set to host a significant event on Thursday, marking the inauguration of the “Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Wear and Corrosion Resistance Coatings Technology” during the International Conference on Advancements in Thermal Spray (ICOAT-2024). This landmark occasion will be attended by prominent figures, including directors from IIT Patna, CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneshwar, NIT Jamshedpur, and CSIR-CMERI Durgapur.
Esteemed professors from global universities such as Stony Brook University (USA), Monash University (Australia), and Oklahoma State University (USA) will join scientists from India’s leading institutes like the IITs, NITs, and CSIR labs, along with industry executives and participants from across the country. They will gather to explore the latest innovations in thermal spray technology.
The CoE, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, Applied Materials, Tata Steel Limited, and Associated Plasmatron Pvt. Ltd., is a first-of-its-kind facility in eastern India. It boasts advanced thermal spray technologies, including Plasma Spray, HVOF (High Velocity Oxy-Fuel), and HVAF (High Velocity Air Fuel). This state-of-the-art centre aims to meet the diverse coating needs of industries and research institutions throughout the region.
One of the standout applications of these advanced coatings is in agricultural machinery. The CoE’s coatings are set to significantly enhance the durability and efficiency of agricultural equipment, reducing maintenance costs and boosting productivity for Bihar’s farming community. This innovation promises to support agricultural sustainability and modernisation in the state.
ICOAT-2024 will feature a dynamic programme with presentations, interactive sessions, and practical demonstrations using advanced equipment. This platform will facilitate fruitful exchanges of ideas and innovations among industry experts, academics, and researchers, promising significant advancements in thermal spray applications. Emphasising technological progress, the event will also highlight the crucial role of public-private partnerships in driving innovation and economic growth.
As participants engage in discussions aimed at pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge, ICOAT-2024 is set to reaffirm its commitment to shaping a future where cutting-edge technologies play a pivotal role in national development.
