IIT Patna Welcomes Record Freshman Class with Three-Day Orientation Program
Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) launched its largest-ever freshman Orientation and Induction Program on Tuesday, at the CLH building, welcoming 797 new students who secured their places through the highly competitive JEE Advanced 2024 examination. This diverse cohort includes 11 B.Tech, 1 BS, 8 B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree, and 12 B.Tech-MBA dual degree students, with a gender breakdown of 151 females and 646 males, representing 27 states and union territories across India.
The induction ceremony began with traditional rituals, such as the Lighting of the Lamps and Saraswati Vandana, setting a respectful and celebratory tone. The event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Vinita S. Sahay, Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, and Guest of Honor Padma Shri Prof. G.D. Yadav, Former Vice Chancellor of ICT Mumbai. IIT Patna’s Director, Prof. T. N. Singh, along with other esteemed faculty members, also attended the event.
Associate Deans Dr. Sushant Kumar and Dr. Subrata Hait outlined the induction and orientation activities designed to facilitate a smooth transition for the new students. Dr. Kuldeep Singh Patel, who oversees student registration, provided detailed information on the academic structure and grading system.
In his address, Prof. A.K. Thakur praised the students for their achievements and emphasized IIT Patna’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all to excel. He encouraged the students to focus their energies on their academic and personal growth.
Prof. T.N. Singh, the institute’s Director, congratulated the new students and their families, highlighting IIT Patna’s holistic approach to education. He urged students to engage in extracurricular activities and take advantage of the various clubs and societies available on campus.
Guest of Honor Padma Shri Prof. G.D. Yadav inspired students by stressing the importance of self-belief and teamwork in their engineering journey, encouraging them to learn continuously from their peers, faculty, and mentors. Chief Guest Prof. Vinita S. Sahay spoke about the importance of adaptability and resilience in achieving success both academically and professionally.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Vice President of the Gymkhana, acknowledging the efforts of everyone involved in organizing the program.
The first day ended on a high note, with new students eagerly embracing the vibrant and supportive atmosphere of IIT Patna, ready to embark on their academic journey with new dreams and ambitions.
