India-Nepal Border at Raxaul Extends Timings: Open from 5 am to 11 pm

Motihari: In a move aimed at easing cross-border movement, the India-Nepal border at Raxaul will now remain open from 5 am to 11 pm. Previously, the border operated from 6 am to 10 pm. The revised timings, effective from January 14, are expected to benefit both countries’ citizens, particularly traders and travelers.

The extension comes as a result of joint efforts by the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indian Consulate. Binod Kumar, Assistant Commissioner at the Raxaul Land Customs Station, confirmed the change, stating that the official order has been implemented. Travelers arriving on late-running trains such as the Intercity Express from Patna and the Sadbhavna Express from Delhi will particularly benefit, as they will no longer face overnight waits at the border due to its closure.

Madhav Raj Pal, Vice President of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce, explained that Nepal Customs had already extended its operational hours. The Indian Consulate raised the issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Customs Department, leading to the decision to match Nepal’s schedule.

This development is not only a relief for regular travelers but is also expected to boost trade, tourism, and pilgrimage activities between the two nations. The extended hours provide flexibility for tourists and traders, facilitating smoother cross-border exchanges and fostering stronger ties between India and Nepal.
