Sheikhpura/ Patna: In a historic move, Indian Railways has announced the launch of a direct train service connecting Sheikhpura in Bihar to the national capital, Delhi. This marks the first time since Independence that a train will run directly between these two locations, fulfilling a long-standing demand from local residents.
The new service will operate as a Superfast Summer Special train, intended to address seasonal travel demand. Previously, the train operated solely between Gaya and New Delhi, but persistent requests from passengers led the railways to extend the route to Sheikhpura.
According to the official notification, train number 04063 (Sheikhpura–New Delhi Superfast Summer Special) will commence operations from May 6, 2025, running every Tuesday and Friday. It will depart Sheikhpura at 7:00 am and arrive in New Delhi the following day at 3:15 am.
In the return direction, train number 04064 (New Delhi–Sheikhpura) will start from May 5, 2025, running every Monday and Thursday, departing New Delhi at 9:30 am and reaching Sheikhpura the next morning at 5:00 am.
The route will pass through Nawada and Gaya, two major stations in Bihar, ensuring broader regional connectivity. The announcement has been met with enthusiasm in Sheikhpura, where locals hailed the decision as a long-overdue development milestone.
