Patna: An IndiGo flight from Pune to Patna narrowly avoided a serious accident on Thursday evening after a DJ laser light struck the aircraft during its final approach to Patna airport.
Flight number 6E-653, which was scheduled to land at 6:40pm, experienced a sudden disturbance when a high-intensity laser beam was directed at the cockpit, momentarily affecting the plane’s balance. However, the alertness and quick response of the pilot ensured a safe landing, with no injuries reported.
The aircraft later departed for Ahmedabad without further incident.
The laser beam, believed to have originated from an event space or nearby premises, has triggered a joint investigation by the Airport Police Station and Phulwari Sharif Police Station. According to the airport police station in-charge, both police teams are working to identify the source and individual responsible for the incident.
Aviation experts and authorities have raised concerns over such laser interference, which poses a significant threat to pilot vision and aircraft control during critical flight phases. It is also a violation of civil aviation safety norms.
An investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured strict action against those found responsible.
