Patna: Pranav Kumar Pandey, father of Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan, has been inducted into the political advisory committee of the Janata Dal (United), marking a significant step in his deepening involvement with the Nitish Kumar-led party. The committee is tasked with offering policy inputs and strategic guidance to the JD(U), which is preparing for key political contests in the coming months.
Speaking to a private news channel after the appointment, Pandey expressed gratitude and a commitment to his new role, stating, “I will fulfil the responsibility given by the party with honesty and loyalty. I am deeply impressed by Nitish ji’s work and will take his ideals forward among the people.”
Pandey joined the JD(U) on October 27 last year, with the party’s working president Sanjay Jha formally welcoming him into the fold. At the time, Pandey signalled his openness to contest elections in the future, though he made it clear that any such decision would rest with the party. “I consider myself a humble soldier of the party,” he had said, reiterating his readiness to serve in any capacity.
Asked about his son’s reaction to his political entry, Pandey said Ishan Kishan remains focused on cricket and has no political ambitions. However, he added, “When Ishan learned about my political role, he was very excited. If he finds time, he may even campaign for JD(U).”
