Khagaria/Patna: A local Janata Dal (United) leader and nephew of party MLA Pannalal Singh Patel was shot dead in Bihar’s Khagaria district on Wednesday evening, in what police suspect may be the result of a family dispute.
Kaushal Singh, who served as the district general secretary of the JDU, was gunned down near his warehouse located between Purbi Tola Kaithi and Jaiprabha Nagar under Chautham police station. The area lies adjacent to National Highway 107.
According to eyewitnesses, Singh had gone to the warehouse with his wife on a motorcycle when the assailants — reportedly three bike-borne men — intercepted them. One of the attackers, believed to be a relative, allegedly shot Singh at close range in the temple. After he fell, they fired additional rounds before fleeing in the direction of Sonvarsha.
Singh was rushed to Nectar Hospital in Khagaria, where doctors declared him dead. Senior police officials, including Khagaria SP Rakesh Kumar, arrived at the hospital to take stock of the situation.
“The initial investigation suggests a family dispute. We are probing all angles and conducting raids to apprehend the culprits,” SP Kumar said.
