JD (U): Unconditional Support to Modi Govt, Demands Special Status for Bihar and Agniveer Review
Patna: In the aftermath of the Lok Sabha elections, the Janata Dal (United) has made a significant statement. Ahead of the formation of the NDA government in Delhi, JDU’s senior leader and spokesperson KC Tyagi declared the party’s unconditional support for the central government. However, he emphasized that the demand for special state status for Bihar remains a priority.
Tyagi acknowledged that a segment of voters is displeased with the Agniveer scheme. He asserted that the party wants a thorough discussion on the scheme’s shortcomings, which have been highlighted by the public, and aims to address these issues.
On the topic of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), JD (U) General Secretary KC Tyagi mentioned that the party’s national president, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has written to the Law Commission chief. While JDU is not opposed to the UCC, Tyagi stressed that a solution should be reached through dialogue with all stakeholders and political parties.
Echoing this sentiment, Bihar government minister Shravan Kumar reiterated that JDU will not compromise on the issue of special state status for Bihar. He stated that the demand for special status is longstanding and essential for the state’s development.
The central government launched the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme on June 14, 2022, aimed at enlisting a large number of youth into the Army, Navy, and Air Force for a period of four years. This scheme has been a point of contention among certain voter groups, which JD (U) seeks to address through constructive discussion and reform.
