JDU Leader’s House Robbed in Muzaffarpur, Family Held at Gunpoint

Muzaffarpur: A gang of armed robbers looted the house of JDU District Vice President Ramesh Kumar Ojha in Khabra village, under the Mushahari block of Sadar police station, on Friday night. The robbers, who arrived on two bikes, held the women of the house at gunpoint and took away valuables, including gold earrings, a mobile phone, artificial anklets, ₹1,200 in cash, and household items.
According to the victims, six dacoits were involved in the robbery, with four of them entering the house while the others remained outside. The robbers became enraged when they failed to find a large sum of cash and began demanding ₹40 lakh. When the women informed them that they did not have such an amount, the robbers started ransacking the house.
At the time of the incident, Ramesh Ojha was away with his son to take a Maha Kumbh bath. Only his wife, Vibha Devi, and his younger brother’s wife, Shweta Bharti, were present in the house.
Robbery Planned After a Recce?
Shweta Bharti narrated the sequence of events, stating that at around 6:30 pm, a young man had visited their home, asking for “Bhaiya” (Ojha). When they informed him that he was not home, the man, who introduced himself as Vikas, mentioned a land-related issue and left.
However, just an hour and a half later, at 8:00 pm, four armed men barged into the house. “We immediately handed over whatever jewellery we were wearing, but they continued searching for money. They threatened to kill us if we didn’t give them ₹40 lakh and began destroying household items,” she said.
Police Investigation Underway
Upon receiving information about the incident, Sadar police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the nearby area is being examined, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been notified. Sadar SHO Ashmit Kumar confirmed that a probe is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Recurring Target: JDU Leader’s House Robbed in 2012 as Well
JDU leader and former Sarpanch Ramesh Kumar Ojha expressed concern over the security situation, recalling that a similar robbery had occurred at his house in 2012. “Even in that case, the police failed to catch the culprits. Now, my house has been targeted again. The robbers conducted a recce before carrying out the crime. This has left my entire family in fear,” he said.
Notably, this is not the first crime in the area. Previously, criminals had also looted a Flipkart office in the same village and shot a delivery boy during the incident.
The police have assured that all efforts are being made to trace the accused and strengthen security measures in the region.
