Patna: The construction of JP Ganga Path, the ambitious expressway along the southern bank of the Ganga in Patna, is set to be completed by March, significantly reducing travel time between Digha and Didarganj to just 30 minutes. The Bihar government is also planning to extend the corridor further east to Bakhtiyarpur and west to Bhojpur.
Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said the foundation stone for JP Ganga Path was laid on October 11, 2013, marking the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. With the stretch between Digha and Kangan Ghat already operational, connectivity between the eastern and western parts of Patna has improved. The final phase of construction, from Patna Ghat to Didarganj, is expected to be completed by February, with the removal of segment launchers in March marking the project’s completion.
At present, vehicular movement is allowed up to Patna Ghat, and once fully operational, the expressway will seamlessly connect to National Highway 30. The government believes this will further ease congestion in the city, especially after connectivity was restored at Kangan Ghat.
Sinha also announced plans to develop green areas along both sides of JP Ganga Path, aiming to enhance Patna’s urban environment. With its extension plans in place, the expressway is expected to emerge as a crucial transport corridor, benefiting commuters and reducing the city’s longstanding traffic woes.
