Patna: In a major infrastructure boost to Patna Sahib’s religious tourism, the Bihar government is setting up a multi-level car park near Kangan Ghat with the capacity to accommodate 450 vehicles. The project, overseen by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC), is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area, which sees a steady influx of devotees visiting prominent spiritual landmarks like Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib, Patan Devi Temple, and several historic gurudwaras.
According to the Department of Tourism, the multi-level facility will be constructed over an area of approximately 19,000 square metres. Designed as a G+3 structure, the car park will feature both car lifts and passenger elevators. The department has already floated a tender for construction, with a completion timeline of two years following the selection of a contractor. The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 99.26 crore.
Officials say the design of the building will reflect the cultural and architectural heritage of Patna Sahib. This emphasis on blending functionality with aesthetics aims to honour the spiritual significance of the surrounding religious sites while providing much-needed infrastructure to handle vehicular inflow. With this move, the government hopes to address a long-standing demand for organised parking in the area.
Once completed, the parking facility will allow visitors to park their vehicles near Kangan Ghat and comfortably access key pilgrimage spots such as the Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib, Kangan Ghat Gurudwara, Bal Leela Gurudwara, and both Badi and Chhoti Patan Devi temples.
Authorities believe this will not only improve the experience for tourists and pilgrims from India and abroad but also reduce traffic bottlenecks and enhance overall accessibility in the densely visited neighbourhood.
