KC Tyagi Resigns as JD (U) National Spokesperson; Rajiv Ranjan Steps In
Patna: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi has stepped down from his role as the party’s national spokesperson, citing personal reasons for his resignation. The party has swiftly appointed Rajiv Ranjan as his successor, as confirmed in an official letter issued by JD (U) General Secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan.
The letter states, “JD (U) national president Nitish Kumar has appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad to the post of national spokesperson. KC Tyagi has resigned due to personal reasons.”
While the official narrative points to personal reasons behind Tyagi’s resignation, speculation within political circles suggests otherwise. Tyagi, a long-standing and prominent figure in the JD (U), is rumored to have faced pressure to step down following a series of statements he made that reportedly diverged from the party’s official stance. Among the contentious issues was his criticism of the Agniveer scheme, along with other remarks made without prior consultation with party leadership.
Tyagi’s outspoken nature and his perceived alignment with opposition viewpoints reportedly caused friction not only within JD (U) but also with its coalition partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His participation in a meeting with opposition leaders, during which he criticized the central government’s foreign policy and its arms supply to Israel, is believed to have been particularly controversial. On August 25, Tyagi was seen with opposition MPs in Delhi, where he signed a joint statement condemning the government’s stance, further fueling tensions within the party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
In his resignation note, Tyagi stated, “Due to my personal engagements, I am not able to do justice to the post of party spokesperson. So please relieve me of this responsibility today. However, I will always be available to propagate the achievements of the Bihar government from time to time.”
KC Tyagi had been appointed as the national spokesperson and special advisor to the party in May 2023, with Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar emphasizing his organizational experience as a key asset. His sudden departure marks a significant shift in the party’s communication strategy, as Rajiv Ranjan takes on the mantle of national spokesperson.
